Home Mission Foundation: The Founders’ Legacy
Lutheran men and women, filed with the Holy Spirit, telling the Good News and sharing God’s Peace and Joy with others through the world! Can this be real? Yes, it is!
The Home Mission Foundation was incorporated in 1953 to promote new mission congregations and to promote education to pastors. Out of this legacy given by Lutheran men and women, the HMF has made one hundred sixty-eight (168) loans in the amount of over seven million eight hundred thousand dollars ($7,800,000) to one hundred eight (108) NC Lutheran congregations. It is estimated that these low-interest loans have saved NC congregations over six million dollars ($6,000,000) in interest payments. The HMF has given gifts and grants in excess of three million dollars ($3,000,000) to the following:
- New mission congregations
- Scholarships for Seminarians
- New pastors for continuing education
- Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS)
- LTSS for Endowment in Bible and Mission
- NC Synod of the ELCA
- The Rev. Walter Yount Lodge at Agape
- NCLMM and National LMM
- Lenoir-Rhyne University
Recently, the HMF and the North Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission (NCLMM) celebrated a gift of one million six thousand dollars ($1,006,000) to the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary (LTSS) to establish the North Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission Chair in Bible and Mission. This endowment is given in honor and memory of the founders of the HMF.
These are highlights. Who could have imagined all of this would happen?!! We thank God for the vision and leadership by the founders of the Home Mission Foundation.
The HMF serve Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in cooperation with the North Carolina Synod of the Lutheran Church in America (NC Synod), its congregations, and the North Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission.
